Wear It Wednesday: 6 Ways to Wear a Plaid Shirt

Happiest of Wednesdays! Earlier this fall, I rolled out one of my newest blog projects – Friday Favorites, and tonight I’m launching my second! It’s called Wear it Wednesday and I’m over the moon excited to introduce this to you guys! As some of you may know, I am a stylist and that is one of my biggest passions. I have the opportunity to work on a wide spectrum of projects, from high-end editorial photo shoots, to being a personal shopper for clients. I started this blog actually as a way to showcase that work, and I want to really dive back into my styling roots in 2017.

Many moons ago, when SAK was new, I did outfit collage posts (remember Polyvore?) on Wednesdays called “Wearable Wednesdays” – Check out an old post here. I always wanted my blog to be a platform to utilize my skills as a stylist and help people get dressed, become inspired and break down any barriers my readers have with fashion. I have realized in the past year that I want to take the blog in that direction once again and revamp my content and site. So in order to kick off WIW (Wear It Wednesday), I’m starting today with 6 ways to wear a plaid shirt!

A plaid shirt can be a versatile go-to piece for the holidays – it’s festive, comfy and there are so many ways to dress up or down the piece. Let’s take a look!

1. Half Tuck

This is an easy way to to switch up how your style your button-up shirt. I rolled up my sleeves, slightly popped my collar, and tucked in one flap of the shirt.
*Stylist Tip: It’s easier to tuck in the side with buttons since it’s the bottom side and the top flap will easily lay against your jeans.simplyaudreekate-zafiahmedphoto-29-copy

2. Blouse

A way to dress up your plaid shirt is to button up the shirt to the collar, and add something to the neckline. I attached a velvet bow collar, but you can also tie a large ribbon, add a statement necklace, or a bandana.

3. Tied Around the Waist

Take a grunge spin on your outfit and tie the plaid shirt around a graphic tee and top the look with a leather or denim jacket. This is the perfect laid-back weekend look.

4. Open

Layer your plaid shirt over a simple tee, and finish off the look with a bandana around your neck, or statement necklace. You can leave the tee tucked in or untucked – both make for a casual look.

5. Under A Dress

You can transition a sleeveless dress into winter by layering a plaid shirt underneath. I took this metallic dress (from this post), added the plaid shirt and finished the look with a low bun and chandelier earrings.

6. Front Tuck

This is similar to the half tuck, but this style is easier to wear on a day to day basis.
