This past weekend, Simply Audree Kate attended the Scottsdale Ferrari-Maserati Polo Championship in Scottsdale. Who would have expected Polo to be so fun in the desert? But after a weekend of carefully crafted outfits and learning Polo lingo, you would’ve thought we were old pros.
Cleverly themed “Horses and Horsepower”, we were greeted by a sea of Ferraris and Maseratis at the door. We don’t know much about cars but based on the number of people drooling over them, they were definitely a sight to see! We headed to the back of the tents to shop at the array of vendors set up. From Polo Team apparel to custom jewelry, the diverse spread of local businesses were impressive. Our favorite tent of course was the Volvo of Phoenix Lounge where we could sit and enjoy the show. The tent was the perfect retreat from the sun and a place to catch the Polo Match (the players weren’t too hard on the eyes either).
But our favorite part of the weekend was outfit watching of course! Attendees suited up in their finest derby hats and gloves for the occasion. There was a spectrum of style from classic dresses to more modern twists on the Polo scene. It was refreshing to see people with a contemporary take on equestrian fashion pairing riding boots, leather and darling plaid accents. A lot of men even dressed up for the occasion; bowties, blazers and fedoras—need we say more ladies? But maybe we’re just suckers for nicely coordinated patterns.
After the Friday Polo match ended, the fun began as Phoenix Fashion Week’ Sunset Fashion Show commenced. The Volvo of Phoenix lounge filled with spectators eager to see the equestrian inspired ensembles take stage. The show included fashions by Dillard’s, My Sister’s Closet, and Phoenix Fashion Week’s Emerging Designer, Doux Belle. The spread on the runway was just gorgeous. The show took the “riding boot” fad to a new level with leather pairings and fitted blazers. The riding crops and bowl hats were a perfect touch to tie together the collection. Overall, the show was a brilliant event and great inspiration for fall fashion.
The Polo championship was a great way to spend the weekend and pick up some great fall fashion tips. It was an excellent way to escape the craziness of October and learn about a new stylish sport!
