I love being a tourist in New York City now that I live here. Does that even make sense? I feel like sometimes when you’re on vacation or visiting somewhere you have such a strict regime of events, sites, food, etc. that you have to squeeze into 48 hours and it can be beyond exhausting. I made it one of my New Year’s resolution to explore more of NYC – there is so much to do in just Manhattan alone that I do not have enough energy or creativity to find everything on my own! This past weekend I teamed up with Vimbly for a two-part “NYC Adventure” series.
Vimbly is based in over 20 large cities across the US including NYC, Phoenix and San Francisco, and shows available times for local activities, dates or classes. You can browse by category, date, price and read more in depth about each event through what the event is about and other attendee’s reviews.
For the series I teamed up with my blogger besties, Andie from Gingersnap and Kayla from Kayla’s Five Things! The first activity we chose to do was a New York Craft Cocktail Tour. On the event page it says you can expect to find the best tucked-away places to grab a drink in the East Village, learn how prohibition shaped NYC, discover new spirits from local micro-distilleries and most importantly, taste delicious craft cocktails. Check, check, check and check! I absolutely had a blast on the tour. Our group ended up being just us, a couple visiting town and our tour guide, Josh from New York City Urban Adventures. It was the perfect balance between an informative tour and a fun Saturday night out!
We started at Blind Barber with appetizers and cocktails, and finished dessert with mini cupcakes from Prohibition Bakery. Our next stop was William Barnacle Tavern where we had absinthe and learned about the off broadway theatre in the back of the bar. Our third stop was Astor Wine and Spirits, with an extremely large selection of speciality and local alcohol. The last stop on the tour was Sweetwater Social – a lounge in Noho with handcrafted cocktails and foosball. I don’t want to give too much away about the tour because I want you to go obviously, but I really liked how different each place was!
I think my favorite stop of the night was Blind Barber since I have never really been to a speakeasy before. I would definitely take friends from out of town to William Barnacle Tavern and you can probably catch me at Sweetwater Social next weekend! Overall I had a great time learning more about the cocktail culture of NYC and also finding a few new stops on my weekend social list.
