How to Wear Your Favorite College Shirt as an Adult

When I started college I hoarded every free t-shirt I could get my hands on. Free football shirt? Yes please. Free shirt for a random student organization? Sure! Free tote? Oh you betcha! By the end of college my “college shirt” drawer was overflowing with random shirts I wore to bed or to the library. I kept a couple post-grad appropriate pieces, and  donated the rest to younger college students who were actively collecting ASU gear. So, how do you wear your favorite college shirt (or sweater) as an adult? I have three easy tips to keep your college gear feel elevated, fashion-forward and totally post-grad, adult appropriate! Check it out!

Ditch the Graphic Tee

You know how much I love my graphic tees, but keep your worn out graphic tees for the gym or sleep, and update your college gear with pieces that have higher quality fabrics and a tailored fit. I have two ASU sweaters that I love because they’re great for layering in the fall for football games or running errands, and they instantly feel more dressed up than a graphic tee. And for men, I also love the idea of a polo or button-up with an ASU logo  – this is great for showing off your school spirit at work or at sporting events.

Get Pieces You’ll Actually Wear

One of the first ASU pieces I bought was a maroon and gold striped dress in the bookstore during my college visit. It was maybe $12 on the clearance reach and I felt my adrenaline pumping with school spirit. I wore the dress once and then stuffed it to the back of my closet. I have never been the gung-ho school spirited dresser and I realized that walking around campus looking like a giant ASU bumble bee was not my personal style.

If you’re like me, and you love your college but don’t want to be a walking billboard, invest in pieces that you’ll actually wear. I know I will wear this grey crewneck sweater on repeat because the logo is embroidered, the finish of the sweater is a soft vintage-y cotton and looks really high-quality. I also opt for letter logos versus direct wording or mascots.

Vintage Vibes Always Win

Nothing says collegiate style like some retro, vintage pieces. I paired my ASU sweater with my vintage Members Only jacket, cut off jeans and Converse. You can also replicate the look by wearing a college cardigan or varsity jacket. These vintage-inspired pieces will be a conversation starter at your next alumni event and you’ll definitely be the trendsetter of the group!

I hope you enjoy today’s look and don’t forget to download your Sun Devil Rewards App so you can get some new ASU swag! As a reminder, when you download the app, you can redeem 400 pitchforks by using my secret word “LOVEPITCHFORK”. The lowest-valued item on the app is 500 pitchforks, so in addition to my code, you can redeem 50 points when you register, and other 50 points for linking your social media accounts. My code expires on Friday April 7th, so make sure to download asap! Want to see what else I spent my points on? Check out yesterday’s post here and shop the pieces below! xo
