How To Bounce Back from Vacation

2017 and 2018 has been my busiest years of travel to date. I finally took the leap and spontaneously booked plane tickets, started crossing off cities and countries off my to-do list and it has been the most eye-opening and amazing experience. With each trip, I learn a little more about traveling, how to pack, how to plan and most importantly, how to get back into the swing of things post-vacation. Jet lag is a real thing, unpacking is always horrible but today I’m sharing 5 tips that have helped me travel and get back to reality. xo

Return One Day Early

This is a tip that I actually learned from my mom. She always makes sure that she has one day in-between vacation and work. Getting back from vacation and then having to run to the office the next morning is stressful. Planning an in-between day allows you to unpack, get organized and adjust back to your normal everyday life.

Create a To-Do List

Things inevitably slip through the cracks during vacation. My suggestion is to make a list before your trip, or as soon as your get home. This will help you manage your time, stay on top of what needs to be accomplished and alleviate stress. But also remember that you don’t have to cross everything off your to-do list immediately. Take that day back to recharge and adjust before diving into your work projects.

Clean Your Inbox

This is one thing that I really struggle with. I always have thousands of unanswered emails after vacation and it is overwhelming. I used to blow off cleaning my inbox but now I dedicate my plane time or a couple hours before or after travel to work on my inbox, and it has helped me stay on track and cross things off my to-do list.

Resume Your Routine

One way to get your mind off vacation mode is to resume your routine. The first few days back at home and work are going to feel exhausting but once you start to get back to your rhythm you feel good. Get back to your routine ASAP and you will  feel more productive. Whether that’s going to the gym, running errands or waking up early so you don’t get into a jet-lag  rut.

Schedule Breaks In Your Schedule

To kick those post-vacation blues to the side make sure to schedule breaks in your daily schedule. These breaks help your mind adjust back to work life. Take a walk outside, grab coffee with a friend or clear our your schedule for some “me” time will help that first week back.
