Did you know that nearly 1 in 5 women have stated that they have been raped? (CDC) That number makes me speechless, and the worst part is knowing that 1 in 10 women have been raped by an intimate partner (CDC). Today I am gearing up with Guess for Denim Day!
Peace Over Violence‘s Denim Day is a sexual violence prevention campaign to help raise awareness to the impacts of sexual violence. The campaign was sparked by a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court in the 90’s where a rape conviction was overturned due to a ruling that the victim was wearing tight jeans; therefore she must have helped her rapist remove them and implying consent. Today, wearing jeans has become an iconic symbol of protest against sexual violence (more info here and here).
