12 Days of SAKmas: Holiday Traditions

I’m currently snuggled up on the couch with a blanket and watching a Christmas movie. It’s my favorite thing to do during the holidays if I have any downtime, which is definitely rare! I have now been in Arizona a few days and Christmas is in full swing! Today I wanted to share a few of my family and friend traditions I do every holiday season.

Tamales and Menudo

One of my family’s oldest holiday tradition is making tamales and menudo. It’s normally a full day affair but it’s always so worth it. We make regular, and green chili tamales and a big pot of menudo soup. It’s a fun hispanic family tradition, and now even some of my friends join to help make them.

Ugly Sweater Party

Ugly Sweater parties are always a fun friend group tradition! I jump on any opportunity to wear one of my sweaters. This year I wore my new Old Navy sweater under my SantaCon costume (see post here) and I also styled it on the blog over the weekend (see post here). I haven’t photographed my ugly sweater yet this year, but I’m sure I’ll wear it at some point during my trip to my parent’s house!

Christmas Cookies

Did someone say cookies?! Yes please! I have a huge sweet tooth, so making Christmas cookies with my mom, and eating them, is easily a great tradition. This year I missed cookie making, but you can bet that I will be enjoying these treats on Christmas!

Puzzles

A few Christmases ago, my family decided we needed a new Christmas Eve and Day tradition. We typically spend the holiday with just our immediate family, so we thought a puzzle would be a good way to spend time together, and not just sit on the couch. We have a new one each year and it’s a fun and interactive way to bond.

Christmas Movies

Christmas movies are easily my favorite holiday tradition! As soon as Thanksgiving passes, the Christmas movies are on repeat. My favorite movie is “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” the version with Jim Carrey. On Christmas Eve night, my family will change into our holiday PJs, snuggle up on the couch with blankets, popcorn and watch the movie. Casper customized my holiday movie essential checklist, and it’s everything I need for the perfect movie night-in. You can check out more on them here!
