Up-and-coming Designers to Watch Out for This Summer

Ever wonder what the future of fashion looks like? Us too. While trend forecasting and runway shows give a great glimpse into the near future, another informative place to look at is up-and-coming designers. By studying designers on the rise, you can get a feel for which labels will climb to popularity over the next few years or, maybe—ten or fifteen years down the line—be considered one of the greats.

New, emerging designers contribute so much to the fashion industry. Their fresh perspectives shape new trends and serve as inspiration for us all. Each season, we find new designers to obsess over whose pieces inevitably end up on our moodboards and wishlists and influence our everyday dressing. This summer is no different. While there’s plenty of emerging designers and brands we’ve been Insta-stalking for inspiration, below are the ones we’ve mainly got on our radar. Keep reading five up-and-coming designers to watch out for this summer.

Rotate Birger Christensen

Designed by Danish stylists and influencers Jeanette Madsen and Thora Valdimar, Rotate Birger Christensen specializes in whimsical, feminine dresses priced at a relatively affordable point. These dresses are truly showstoppers—think poufy sleeves, ruching, ruffles, bright colors, and bold prints—and you’ll be seeing them all over your Instagram feed in the coming months.

Peter Do

If you’re a lover of tailoring, keep your radar on Peter Do. After working under Phoebe Philo at Celine (hello @oldceline fans), Peter Do launched his namesake label in 2018. He has since gained a growing reputation for his structured silhouettes, impeccable construction, and inventive fabric choices. Plus, this brand blurs the lines of the traditional feminine and masculine ways of dressing to create empowering pieces.

Supriya Lele

Supriya Lele, a British-Indian designer, launched her label in 2017. Supriya Lele is known for her minimalist aesthetic that simultaneously takes inspiration from her roots—reflecting aspects of traditional Indian clothing and elements of 90’s British fashion. With accolades under her belt—including the British Fashion Council’s Newgen award— keep your eye on Supriya Lele.

We’re firm believes that fashion should be fun, and Staud seems to follow that ethos. Founded by Sarah Staudinger and George Augusto, the Staud woman is unapologetically herself, never shying away from bright colors, funky details, and eye-catching accessories. From hibiscus print sundresses and yin-yang sweaters to feather-trimmed shoulder bags and colorful strappy sandals, Staud is the brand for any fun-loving fashionista. Not to mention, the brand recently debuted a New Balance collaboration and the option to personalize sweatshirts and handbags with photos of your pets!

Deveaux is a Luxury American label that produces both men’s and womenswear lines. Initially formed by Matthew Breen and Andrea Tsao and now also headed by creative director Tommy Ton, Deveaux is known for its sophisticated styles and elevated takes on classics. The pieces feel timeless and universal, and the clientele spans generations and genders.
