If you’re a fashion lover but are not following men’s fashion, stop what you’re doing and take a look! Currently, the men’s fashion industry is exploding with creativity. Left and right designers are taking risks and pushing boundaries, bringing menswear to new heights it has never seen before. As androgynous and gender-blurring clothing is gaining popularity in fashion, prints and fabrics once reserved for feminine collections have taken over men’s runways. Never-before-seen silhouettes have made a place for themselves among the sea of structured tailoring so commonly found in menswear collections. It’s inspiring.
While it’s exciting to see so many new ideas on the runway, actually breaking down the trends and translating them into your wardrobe can be overwhelming. Don’t worry, guys, we feel you! So, we’ve broken down trends straight off Spring/Summer 2020 runways and found more wearable items you can shop right now. Keep reading for six of this summer’s biggest menswear trends and easy ways to wear them.
A great place to start with this trend is separates. A boldly printed button-up or pair of shorts is a great way to begin to add print to your wardrobe this summer. If you do want to jump into the head-to-toe trend but are worried the print may be a little overwhelming to start, you can always leave your shirt unbuttoned and layer a solid tee under to break things up.
Denim on Denim
Season after season, denim is classic. You may even be able to accomplish this trend with things you already have in your wardrobe! Just play around with styling the denim pieces you already own and combine them in new ways.
Pastels are not just for girls. This soft-colored trend is surprisingly easy to incorporate into menswear wardrobes in multiple ways. A solid-colored, pastel tee or sweatshirt is a great place to start. Suiting (especially dress pants) have also hit the market in a variety of light shades and can be styled with other pastel pieces or a plain white shirt. Also, check out sportswear. From joggers to athletic shorts to jackets, there’s a ton of ways to test the pastel trend this summer.
We’re firm believers that everyone should own a leather jacket, and this season’s runways only enforced that belief. Moto jackets were especially popular among menswear collections, and we love them for their ability to elevate and add a little edge to any outfit. While leather jackets are trending right now, this is a piece that never goes out of style or season. You’ll have it forever, so take this summer to find one you love.
If the word satin sounds scary to you, don’t worry! While this trend reads very editorial on the runway, it’s super wearable when broken down into smaller doses. A satin bomber-style jacket is a great outerwear choice for cooler summer nights, while a satin shirt or slim-fit pant works well for a dressier occasion.
Cargo was one of the biggest trends this season, shown by a variety of designers in many different ways. One of the biggest was a cargo jacket, which will be a great layering piece for seasons to come. Cargo pants were also huge on the runways and a super-easy trend to pair with items you already own. While many cargo styles were shown in shades of olive, khaki, and beige, there are so many other fresh takes on the market right now, including pinstripe and neon.
