Day 2: Cheap DIY Christmas Decorations

Christmas decorations can get expensive! From lights, ornaments, trees and more, decorations can tally up on top of all the gifts you have to purchase. Keep things simple by making some of your own decorations this year. Below are some pictures of my favorite DIY and cheap Christmas wreaths and decorations for your apartment, dorm room or house!

Wreaths

Buy a cheap branch wreath at your local craft store and glue on fake flowers, a decorated cardboard letter and attach a burlap bow

Buy wooden pieces from a craft store or circular drink coasters (you can use cork too) and glue on winter garland found at Walmart or a craft store

Dying to throw out your man’s old ties? Or if you don’t have access to a handful of ties, go to a thrift shop and buy some. Glue the ends of the tie to a circular styrofoam wreath (bought at craft store).

Glue colorful pom poms to a styrofoam wreath and hang with chunky ribbon.

Wrap satin ribbon around a styrofoam wreath and glue cheap plastic ornaments on top.

Buy a packet of colorful christmas lights and glue to a wreath and hang with ribbon.

Need a gift for your teacher or co-worker? Make a Tea wreath with painted or decorated clothes pins. Perfect for the office kitchen or to help brighten up a day!

Stain old sheet music with coffee and glue together. Attach festive ribbon and a fake flower for the ultimate classy christmas wreath.

Never know what to do with your endless amounts of wine corks? make a wreath! Attache pom poms or bells on the end to add color.

Cut leaf shapes out of magazines and make a light and little to no cost wreath!

Gather up some colorful straws and glue together for a modern and unique wreath.

Decorations 

Embrace your inner elementary school kid and make a garland of snowflakes! These can be make out of colorful stationary paper to make a bigger statement!

Use old wine bottles and first paint white and then sprinkle epson salt on them for a “snowy” look

Can’t afford or have enough room for a Christmas tree? Buy fake branches or twig decorations from a housing area at Target, Michaels or Ikea and put them in a vase decorated with ornaments.

Outline a Christmas tree with lights for small apartments or living room areas.

Buy several sizes of embroidery hoops at your local craft store and glue wrapping paper or stationary paper in the middle of the hoop for wall ornaments.

Fill empty vases with ornaments for great table centerpieces.

In addition to snowflakes make large 3-D ornaments out of paper and hang with ribbon or clear fishing wire.

Place dixie cups over lights on a strand of Christmas lights for a chic and relaxed ambiance.

Fill wine bottles or vases with christmas lights for table decorations.

Hang lights zig-zag across a wall and on the empty spaces on the lights, clothespin Christmas cards and pictures.
