5 Makeup Tips for Gals with Glasses

Overall, my makeup routine is fairly simple. When I first started wearing makeup, I would never dare leave the house without eyeliner or even a fully shadowed eyelid. Maybe it came with age, moving to New York, or my pure lack of laziness, but I’ve now embraced a minimal face (with the exception of a bold lip). As a part-time glasses wearing gal, I have five makeup tips I sharing with you today! Wearing dark makeup can really weigh down your face, especially if you wear thick or oversized frames, so make sure to keep things light, bright and fun!

Also, last summer I was a makeup model for a story at Redbook magazine (HERE). I was one of the only ladies at the office who wore glasses and I was SO excited to work with makeup artist, Mally Roncal on this fun look! In the story we did a colorful shadowed eye to enhance my green eyes, and for my look on the blog today, I decided to do the opposite and keep my eye makeup completely minimal – with the added pop of red lipstick of course! Here we go! xo

1.Keep Lids Light

All the focus will be on your eyes when you wear glasses, so don’t weigh down your face with a dark smoky eye – opt for light shadows or a more brown/neutral smoky eye. For this look I simply just used my highlighter on my lids and inner eye area to brighten things up. I also nixed the eyeliner and just did mascara. Make sure to look for a mascara that will volumize your lashes, not lengthen – you don’t want them to brush along your lenses all day.

2.Enhance Your Eye Color with Complimentary Eyeshadow Shades

As displayed in the Redbook article, if you’re going to do an eyeshadow, make sure it compliments your eye color. We used purple tones to brighten up my green eyes! If you’re interested in finding out the shades that work best for your color, read HERE.

3.Use White Eyeliner on Water Line

This is an age old trick my mom taught me when I started doing makeup. If you’re wanting to brighten up your eyes, appear more awake or make them look larger, swipe white eyeliner on your bottom water line. If you don’t have any, You can use a light shadow or place highlighter under your lash line and inner eye area.

4.Use Eyeliner Lighter Than Your Frames

Most makeup tricks I’ve read about eyewear beauty, is to use eyeliner lighter than your frames. You can try for a brown or colored eyeliner so your eyes stay bright behind the frames. If you’re a die-hard black eyeliner girl, like me, either try a cat eye to draw attention up and outwards, or just stick with a thin line on the top lids.

5.Don’t Forget Concealer!

I feel like most of my glasses-wearing friends say they don’t wear concealer because they feel like the frames will hide their under eye circles; but the shadows created by the glasses can actually make your dark circles look worse! I naturally have insanely dark circles under my eyes (see the Redbook article for a good laugh) so I always make sure to wear a brightening concealer.
